Receiving email while moving your domain name
If you move your domain name to WebOké, there is a short period in which some mail still arrives at your old provider and other mail already arrives with us. That's because a change in the DNS isn't known everywhere at the same time. With these steps, you won't miss any mail.
1. Create your mailboxes at WebOké
Create the same mailboxes in DirectAdmin as with your old provider, with the same address. You can do this as soon as your package is ready, even if your domain hasn't moved yet. See Creating an email address.
2. Copy your existing mail
With the email migration tool, you copy all mail from your old mailbox to your new mailbox with us, via IMAP. Your old mailbox keeps working as normal. See Moving email to WebOké with the email migration tool.
When doing so, enter the server name for your old mailbox that your old provider gives you, such as mail.provider.nl or imap.provider.nl. Don't use an IP address and not mail.yourdomain.nl: the latter will point to our server after the move, and an IP address gives a certificate warning or doesn't work at all with a secure connection.
3. Move the domain
After the move, the MX records point to our server, and new mail arrives with us. During the transition, usually a few hours and sometimes a day, mail may still arrive at your old provider.
4. Copy again after a day
Run the email migration tool again a day after the move. Mail that has already been copied is skipped. Only the mail that still arrived at your old provider during the transition period is added. That way, you won't miss anything.
5. Set up your devices
Add your mailbox at WebOké to your mail program and your phone, using the server name of your package (you'll find this in the email with your account details, something like linuxXX.webawere.nl). Choose IMAP. Then remove the old account, so you don't accidentally still send mail via your old provider. See After the move: MX records and your devices.
