Quick start: the five things to do on your first day

You're logged in and you know your way around your Dashboard. These five steps will help you get the most out of your WebOké Nextcloud straight away. Each step takes just a few minutes. Do them in this order.

1. Set up your security properly

First, check your email address in your profile (Filling in your profile: name, photo, email address, language and time zone): that's where your login codes arrive. Then set up an authenticator app and save your backup codes (Setting up an authenticator app and saving backup codes). That way you'll always be able to log in, even if your email isn't working.

2. Install the app on your computer

With the free Nextcloud Files app, your files also appear in a regular folder on your computer, and stay automatically in sync with your Nextcloud. Download the app from www.weboke.nl/download. See Installing Nextcloud Files on Windows (Windows) or Installing Nextcloud Files on Mac (File Provider) (Mac) for the steps.

3. Set up your Nextcloud on your phone

Install the Nextcloud app on your iPhone (The Nextcloud app on iPhone or iPad) or Android phone (The Nextcloud app on Android). Then turn on automatic photo uploading straight away (Automatically uploading photos). That way every new photo is also safely stored in your own cloud.

4. Add your calendar and contacts to your phone

Want to see your Nextcloud calendar and contacts in your phone's regular calendar app too? On the iPhone, see Calendar and contacts on the iPhone and iPad, on Android, see Calendar and contacts on Android with DAVx5. For the iPhone, first create an app password (App passwords: when and how to use them). On Android, you log in to the DAVx5 app through your browser.

5. Share your first folder

Share a folder with a colleague or family member (Sharing with a user from your own Nextcloud), or create a public link for someone without an account (Creating a public link: viewing, editing, password, expiration date and download limit). This is where you'll really feel the benefit of having your own cloud: working together without emailing attachments.
