Chapter 15 · 15.32
You don't see your changes when you download the file or open it on your computer
You've edited a document in your browser. You download it to email it, or you open it via sync on your computer, and you see the old version. Where have your changes gone?
How it works
Euro-Office saves your changes straight away, but first on the document server. The file in your WebOké Nextcloud only gets updated once everyone has closed the document. After that, it still takes a little while, usually ten to thirty seconds. This way, several people can work on it at the same time without the file being written to disk over and over again.
How to get the latest version
- Close the document using the cross in the top right corner (see Closing a document and returning to your files). Ask colleagues who also have it open to close it too.
- Wait half a minute.
- Refresh the page with your files and download the file again. The sync on your computer will then fetch the new version automatically.
In a hurry?
Do you need the latest version to go out right away, while the document is still open? In the editor, choose File, Download as. That file always contains your latest changes, even if others are still working on it.
Pitfalls
- If you leave the document open in a tab all day, the file in Nextcloud won't be updated that day. Close documents once you're done.
- Don't edit a file in your browser and in Word or LibreOffice on your computer via sync at the same time. This can result in two versions or a message saying the file has been changed.
- Do you see the message "The file version has changed"? Then the file has been edited outside the editor. Click OK, and the page will load the latest version.
